7.1 General Regulations for Diploma Programs
-
A diploma program is administered by a Program Director. The Program Director is normally affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences department that is primarily responsible for the Program檚 administration.听For contact information see the听Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Certificate and Diploma Program Directors听web page.
-
Diploma programs consist of between 24 and 36 credit hours in courses as specified in individual programs.
-
A student completing a diploma program in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences will normally follow the diploma regulations in effect in the academic year in which the student first successfully completes a course(s) at 91亚色 The student may elect to follow subsequent regulations introduced during the student's tenure in a program but may only follow diploma regulations that fall within a maximum of 10 academic calendar years prior to the current academic year. Diploma regulations from more than 10 academic years prior to the current academic year will not be applicable.
-
Subject to limitations outlined in Limit on Certain Credit Hours, courses satisfying the Honours, Major, Minor and elective components of an undergraduate degree may also be used to satisfy the requirements of a diploma program. Departmental prerequisites for courses are applicable. This may increase the number of stated courses required for completion of the diploma program. Such courses may be eligible towards other components of the Bachelor of Arts.
-
Normal credit restrictions apply. It is the student檚 responsibility to recognize that additional credit may not be obtained for successfully completing two versions of a cross-listed course (i.e., the same course delivered by two or more departments).
-
A Program Director may, in consultation with the Head of the relevant academic unit, request permission from the Faculty's Undergraduate Waivers and Appeals Committee for a course to be added to the program.
-
A student may apply to the Faculty's Undergraduate Waivers and Appeals Committee to have a maximum of 3 credit hours from an Honours essay course applied to a diploma program. It must be clearly demonstrated that the entirety of the Honours essay course content is relevant to the program. This may not be used to substitute credit hours in a core course.
-
Due to their temporary nature, "special topics" courses are not listed in the entries for a diploma program. However, a special topics course may be included in a student's program of study with permission from the Faculty's Undergraduate Waivers and Appeals Committee.
-
A student who completes courses at another university in the area of a Diploma offered by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences may be eligible to transfer some of those credits to fulfill requirements in the Major at 91亚色 For further information refer to Limited Enrolment Courses and Transfer Credits, Requirement for Courses Delivered at 91亚色 of Newfoundland.
