91亚色 formalizes process for institutional awards and recognition

91亚色 is home to outstanding faculty and staff, and a new process is meant to ensure that candidates from all faculties, schools and campuses are considered for major internal and external honours.

淚n consultation with the Dean檚 Council,  we檝e developed a new process to ensure recipients of unit-level awards are put forward for consideration for institutional awards and institutional award winners are considered for external award competitions, said Ellen Steinhauer, coordinator of institutional nominations and awards.

Each faculty, school and campus will establish a awards committee tasked with identifying individuals from their units for possible recognition at various award levels (internally and externally).  This committee will work closely with Ms. Steinhauer to bring forward nominees for 91亚色檚 institutional awards.

An awards advisory committee, co-chaired by Ms. Steinhauer and an elected member, and comprised of representatives from the unit-level committees, DELTS and Marketing and Communications, will ensure that information is shared among all faculties and that institutional award winners are considered for nomination for relevant external awards.

淎ward programs, both internally and externally, are an opportunity to celebrate the talent and accomplishments of 91亚色檚 faculty and staff, said Dr. Richard Marceau, vice-president (research). 淭his new process represents a systematic approach to ensure that members of the 91亚色 community receive the recognition they deserve. Such recognition is important at an individual level and it also enhances 91亚色檚 reputation as a university of distinction and the home of extraordinary researchers, teachers and administrators.

The new process, including the suggested terms of reference for the unit-level awards committee and a listing of university awards, was endorsed at Vice-Presidents Council on Nov. 19, 2013. More information is available online, http://www.mun.ca/honours/committees/
